You may have noticed the uproar about the choice of General Morrison as Australian of the Year? That clamour you hear is the voice of veterans who are appalled at this appointment and see it as another stench in the nostrils after the appointment of General Cosgrove as Governor-General. (In fact, there is another on-line petition at the moment seeking to have that Morrison appointment terminated!) For my part, I make the observation that Morrison is anything but Australian of the Year. During the last eight years, I have written to him numerous times seeking his assistance in rectifying the records of the war in respect of the 2nd D&E Platoon. Not once did he take any action- or even have the courtesy to reply. I have provided him with clear evidence of breaches of Defence security insofar as I have in my possession confidential documents between General Peter Cosgrove in his role as Chief of Army and a convicted paedophile- Keith Tennant. Those documents had to have been accessed by someone within the Chief of Army's office. There was no response. And I advised him of widespread abuse within the veteran community resulting from compromised war records that was adversely affecting the psychological health of myself and many other men who had served in that platoon. He did not respond. And I am aware that under his watch as Chief of Army the culture of rape and abuse that has existed for decades within Defence continued unabated despite his passionate, flowery rhetoric. And when the 2nd D&E Platoon was formally recognised by the federal government, in 2008, but not by the Australian War Memorial, Morrison again, made no attempt to reconcile the matters. That war history had been compromised was not an issue that concerned him. But when it came to Mardi Gras and breast reductions, transgender issues, and the Islamisation of the Defence force, there he was, front and centre, telling the world what a champion he was. Well......those questions I asked on Q&A back in April 2015 (see attached) remain unanswered- and perhaps the new Australian of the Year might forego a champagne lunch or two some time and address a real issue. I won't hold my breath.
