APHIS: Ensure Lolita's Tank Complies with Federal Regulations Now!
The Issue
Attention: Dr. E. Goldentyer:
As the Regional Director for USDA/APHIS/AC Eastern Region, the Miami Seaquarium facility falls under your jurisdiction.
To date, over 4,000 signatures on recent petitions demanding that APHIS effect compliance with federal regulations, specifically, MHD (minimum horizontal dimension), by the Miami Seaquarium, have been directed to your office.
APHIS Public Affairs Officer, Tanya Espinosa, has recently confirmed the above, and has issued the following statement:
"Dr. Goldentyer, as the Director of Animal Welfare Operations, is responsible for ensuring the compliancy (sic) of facilities located in her Regional area, of which [the Miami Seaquarium] is located."
Therefore, we, the undersigned, insist that you fulfill your mandate on behalf of APHIS by exercising your authority in this matter, and ensure that the whale bowl at the Miami Seaquarium is compliant with federal regulations without further delay.
