Our Pick for Livonia Mayor!

First we want to thank all the candidates for taking time to meet with us and answer questions by our Facebook followers! As we have an amazing group of candidates this year, making the decision who to support has been very difficult. They all have something special to offer the city and we look forward to working with all of them in the future! As a grass-roots citizen movement, the Downtown Livonia Partnership’s primary interest is for the city to meet the needs of the 21st century resident – young AND old. We believe this will be done by revitalizing the city’s vast amount of vacant / abandoned properties into more mixed-use, walk-able, bike-able areas – what we call “Downtown-like”. Doing so will attract next-gen families, meet the needs of aging baby boomers and retain existing families. It will improve school enrollment numbers, increase property values, reduce crime and blight in neighborhoods, and bring jobs. Achieving this goal requires city officials who are creative thinkers, collaborators and are open to engagement from citizens and businesses alike. We believe they should be visionaries who have a respect for the past AND a passion for the future. We believe these candidates meet those requirements. Both candidates have the credentials to do the job. Both would bring a lot of experience to the office and have a passion for the community. We are grateful for what both have done to make Livonia a great place to live. Both have played key roles in making Livonia great in its first 65 years of existence. But we believe only one candidate has the foresight to prepare Livonia for the next 65 years. One candidate sought out 3 unknown Livonia residents with no connections to City Hall (us) after he heard about our Change.org petition. He listened to our evolving ideas and gave brutal, honest feedback – challenging us to think bigger than just a “downtown Livonia”. He’s thoughtful, forward-thinking, and highly collaborative. That candidate is Dennis Wright. We believe Dennis Wright is the right leader to make Livonia an EVEN better place to live, one vacant strip mall renovation at a time!
