The burning of the prairie kills & scares off the local wildlife loved by this community. We have a local herd of at least 7 deer, a pack of coyotes and countless raccoons, squirrels, hawks, owls, chipmunks, ducks, turtles, frogs &  other wildlife that live in this community. Every time the Downers Grove Park Disctrict burns the prairie, this wildlife community is traumatized.  Today, my family had the heart-wrenching task of carefully capturing a barely alive creature that was found in our backyard. He had half a tail, no ears, most of his fur was missing, his feet were bleeding & he could barely breath. We rushed it to Willowbrook Wildlife Center immediately. Upon arriving there, the WWC determined it was a juvenile raccoon, that had been severely burned & suffered from smoke inhalation. He was immediately humanely euthanized. The outdated & barbaric act of "cleansing" the prairie by burning it, needs to stop now! Save our wildlife, stop the burning!
