Dow Constantine, King County Executive: Stop the Barton CSO Bioswales Project
The Barton Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) bioswales project should be stopped primarily due to life safety, liability risks and accessibility issues. It is a costly and risky experiment--of citizens' safety and tax dollars. Ask King County to resolve the CSO issue with a different solution than bioswales. - King County Executive
I just signed the following petition addressed to:
Dow Constantine, King County Executive.
Stop the Barton CSO Project
The Barton Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) bioswales project should be stopped primarily due to life safety, liability risks and accessibility issues. It is a costly and risky experiment--of citizens' safety and tax dollars.
In short, the Barton bioswales project is unsafe, unfair and untested. I have one or more of the following concerns:
Standing water in bioswales; tripping, drowing hazards; mosquitoes and rats; failure of same project in Ballard neghborhood; loss of safe accessibility acrossing planting strip; loss of street parking; impeding the smooth passage of emergency vehicles; tree removal; destruction of current planting strips; existing water drainage issues on my property; ongoing maintenance--by County and by homeowners; unattractive design / negative impact on quality of life and reduction in property values.
I support positive, effective environmental projects. I understand that sewer overflows must be stopped, however I urge King County to resolve the problem by other means than bioswales that would create hazards in residential neighborhoods.
