Ban deadly oil trains from Seattle's railways and underground tunnel.

The Issue

Oil companies want to run trains with explosive danger under Seattle's downtown.

On July 6, 2013, an oil train car derailed in Canada and exploded. 47 people died in the fiery explosion and burning oil, and more than 30 buildings were destroyed in minutes. Some were instantly incinerated. The downtown in Canada was nearly destroyed.

Oil companies want to run more and more of these trains through downtown Seattle and in the train tunnel that runs right under downtown. Right next to the crowded stadiums and our waterfront. If the Canadian accident happened here, thousands will die.

The photo on this petition shows what happened to a Canadian town. Now imagine that happening under our tallest buildings, directly below our busy and always crowded bus tunnel. Under Pike Place Market. Along the Waterfront. Across the street from Safeco Field and CenturyLink Field. Imagine if that accident happened during a Seahawks or Sounders game? Tens of thousands of people will die in Seattle.

Check this Department of Transportation evacuation and blast map. Are you and your family in the possible blast radius?

Tell the Seattle City Council, Seattle Mayor Murray, King County Executive Constantine, the King County Council, and all our Seattle state legislators in Olympia to do whatever it takes to stop this happening, even if we have to take every single company and Federal agency involved to court. Tell them to keep these trains out of Seattle, no matter the cost. Tell them to protect us and our families, no matter the cost.
