Last night, I went and took my case to the Henrico County School Board. I shared with them my story and urged them to take action in changing the mascot of Freeman high school. After the meeting, I had an opportunity to talk with Andy Jenks, who gave me a clear message. The decision to change the name must be made by the school and the school alone. Freeman High School and only Freeman High School has the power to make this change, and I feel it is our job, as students and citizens, to make sure that change is made. So please, email Mr. Mey at apmey@henrico.k12.va.us or schedule time to talk to him directly to voice your concerns. Tell him your stories and why you feel the name should be changed. Be civil, but make it clear why it is long past due that the rebel is removed from our school. And as always, please continue to share this petition with any and all who may be interested.
