Douglas Shire public transport

Douglas Shire public transport
The issue
This petition calls for the Queensland State Government to help fund a public bus route servicing Douglas Shire residents and tourists in the main population areas of Port Douglas, Mossman, Newell Beach and Cooya Beach run by private bus company Sizzling Wheels.
Douglas Shire residents and tourists do not have access to a regular, scheduled, affordable public bus service, which impacts a range of community members including students, the elderly, workers, travellers and those needing to access health services.
Other Far North Queensland regions have more public transport services, while much of the state's population pays 50c fares for public transport.
There is no expectation of 50c services in Douglas Shire, but we are calling for more affordable, subsidised public transport.
As funding for public transport is a State Government responsibility, we call on the Government, and particularly Cook MP David Kempton, to support the proposal.
