Citizens Against Public Transit (Proposed Bus Routes in Douglasville)

This petition had 4,695 supporters

We, the citizens who have signed the petition, are against a bus service in Douglas County and Douglasville.  Douglas County cannot afford to run this bus service.  It will increase crime.  The taxpayers will have to pay for it.  Property taxes will more than likely be increased in order to pay for it.  It will cost $3 MILLION a year to run two small bus lines in Douglasville, a city who does not want the bus service.  Someone has told me they have an inside source--a county official--who says annual costs will be $5 million per year.  It has also been reported by the Douglas County Sentinel that there is a budget shortfall of $11.9 MILLION for the 2018 budget.  See the 2018 Proposed Budget here:

Transportation is already provided for those who are elderly and disabled and need to get around.  Transportation is already provided via GRTA to get commuters to Atlanta.  Rideshare vans are available at park and ride lots throughout the county.  Taxi service, UBER, and Lyft are available here.  The bus service will cause more traffic as it will be making frequent stops throughout the city on streets that are too narrow to accommodate them, streets that need to be widened and resurfaced due to many potholes.  Show the county that a bus service is not needed by signing this petition.

More about the bus service at  Notice it says at the bottom that "operating costs are still being determined".
