Ready to pay $150.00 for the opportunity to dispute a traffic ticket in Alberta?

The Issue

Ready to pay a non-refundable $150.00 fee just to get your foot in the door and dispute a traffic ticket in Alberta? Think you have 30 days to dispute this ticket? Think again.

Court of Alberta is attempting to reduce the timeframe to dispute a traffic ticket from 30 days to 7. That’s right, 7.

If the ticket is over $299, Albertans will have to pay $150 for the opportunity to dispute the fine. Are YOU ready to throw your money out of your balcony or backyard?

Let me be clear, you will have to pay $150.00 to dispute a ticket that may not be warranted in the first place. Essentially, you are now guilty until proven innocent, at your expense.

Doug Schweitzer, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General recently stated:

“We have heard loud and clear from Albertans that they are frustrated with seeing cases dropped because of the court backlog we inherited from the previous government. This legislation proposes smart administrative changes that will ensure our courts and police can keep our communities safe by focusing on serious and violent crime.”

Is this what YOU asked for?

I care about my fellow Albertans; will you care with me?

Sign this petition to send a message loud and clear on the proposed change and express that you as an Albertan, do not accept this. Your voice needs to be heard!

This petition will be presented to Transportation Minister Rajan Sawhney and acting Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Sonya Savage.
