Urge Sony Music to Release Kesha from her Contract with Kemosabe Records

Over the last two years, we have slowly learned more about singer-songwriter Kesha Rose Sebert and her relationship with producer, Lukasz "Doctor Luke" Gottwald. From treatment in a rehabilitation facility for an eating disorder in January 2014 to finally filing a legal suit against Gottwald in October 2014, her fans and the general public now understand that her career has been marred by abuse. As the layers have peeled away, we have learned that for the last ten years, Kesha has undergone mental and sexual abuse at the hand of her producer.

Kesha claims Dr. Luke drugged and raped her, persuaded her to take drugs, and made disparaging comments about her weight (comparing her figure to a "fucking refrigerator"). As Kesha has made the bold decision to speak out about her abuser, she has also put her career on hold. Recently, Sony Music has spoken out on the matter and sided with Gottwald, claiming Kesha is "extorting" them to "renegotiate her contract".

We refuse to believe in the far-fetched idea that Ms. Sebert would risk her career, future, and livelihood to take Dr. Luke to court. Rather, we stand behind Kesha as she bravely attempts to hold her abusive producer accountable for his atrocious actions and abusive behavior. We find it disgusting that Sony Music would stand behind an abuser and shame a victim, the person the corporation is meant to protect.

Those who sign this petition urge you to release Kesha from her contract with Dr. Luke and Kemosabe Records, allowing her to record with another producer or label in a safe, non-abusive environment. You owe your artists the safety of that, Kesha first and foremost.
