Doug Ford: "Sorry" is not enough! Enact ALL Science Table recommendations.
The Issue
Hon. Doug Ford
"Sorry" is not enough!
Peel Region and Toronto are at the epicentre of the Covid-19 nightmare in Ontario. The hospitals are buckling, the doctors we see on the news are desperate and the Ford government is not listening to the Science Advisory Table recommendations.
Essential workers remain in unsafe working conditions as evidenced by high rates of infections in their workplaces and neighbourhoods.
Medical Officers of Health in Peel and Toronto must now resort to shutting down infected workplaces.
So essential workers face financial disaster without paid sick days (or isolation pay for those not sick but still shut out of work?).
The Science Advisory Table has recommended "What will work" and "What will not work." (see https://tinyurl.com/y6cwjvjm )
"What will work:"
1. Essential workplaces:...means permitting only truly essential indoor workplaces to stay open and strictly enforcing COVID-19 safety measures in those places.
2. Paying essential workers to stay home when they are sick, exposed or need time to get vaccinated: [and include wages for all workers in shutdowns]
3. Accelerating the vaccination of essential workers and those who live in hot spots:...immediately allocating as many doses as possible to hotspot neighbourhoods, vulnerable populations, and essential workers.
4. Limiting mobility: ...Ontarians need to stay in their local communities.
5. Focusing on public health guidance that works:...means Ontarians can’t gather indoors with people from outside their household
6. Keeping people safely connected:...means allowing small groups of people from different households to meet outside with masking and two-metre distancing. It means keeping playgrounds open, and clearly encouraging safe outdoor activities.
Doug Ford, I am adding my voice to the voices of the Science Advisory Table, the ICU doctors, nurses and therapists, the unvaccinated, financially vulnerable essential workers! The Science Table has told you "What will/will not work."
Enact ALL six recommendations now!
