Ontario recently announced pandemic pay for frontline workers, which is amazing news, so thank you FordNation. However, a significant portion of frontline workers within hospitals have not been acknowledged. Allied health workers (including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, therapy assistants, speech language pathologists, dietitians, social workers and pharmacists) are crucial team members during this time but are currently not eligible for the pandemic pay. We are all treating patients diagnosed with Covid-19 at bedside and are putting ourselves (and therefore our families) at risk. In addition, by failing to recognize many people on the frontlines, our hard work and efforts to provide quality patient care are devalued.
