Many Ontarians have told CPBH that they don't bother to write to the Ford Government about problems with Tarion.

CPBH has also heard from homeowners over the decades that they won't write to the Ontario Government about issues with Tarion anymore as they feel that the ministry responsible for consumer protection (now called Public and Business Service Delivery - PBSD) has an "anti-consumer" culture.

CPBH recently processed a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to see if any Ontarians have been writing to the Ford Government with complaints about Tarion and the spin-off organization, the Home Construction Regulatory Authority - HCRA.

The FOI system is difficult, bureaucratic, and very expensive. Our first request came back with a cost estimate of $930. We were shocked by that amount - and it was clearly out of our budget. So we reduced the scope of the request, and it too was expensive, $394. But thanks to donations from consumers, we were able to proceed.

Via FOI, we were able to confirm that homeowners are indeed still writing to the Ministry (PBSD) and directly to Premier Ford with complaints. Some are emotional, begging for help.  We've posted one message here. For more examples, please go to CPBH's X/Twitter and Facebook sites.

Unacceptably, Premier Ford and PCs continue to break their promise to end the Tarion monopoly. They are turning a blind eye and allowing far too many Ontarians to fall through the cracks. Sometimes homeowners receive a letter from the Ministry responsible for consumer protection telling them to get a lawyer.

Let's remember this when the next election comes around.

It could be you, your child, your parent, next.  #BuyerBeware
