

Statement by Canadians for Properly Built Homes:
Urgent, Meaningful Action to Adequately Protect Consumers Needed from the Ford Gov’t
Initial Response by CPBH to the Auditor General of Ontario’s audit of Tarion - Ottawa ON – Oct. 30, 2019
The findings in the Auditor General’s report regarding the very serious issues at Tarion are what CPBH expected based on communications with thousands of Ontarians over the past 15 years.
Large numbers of Ontario’s home owners are suffering in newly built homes that do not meet the minimal Ontario Building Code, and as a result their health and safety is at risk. They need help now. The Government of Ontario must put a much higher priority on resolving the problem that is Tarion: Consumers must be put first.
ON Gov’t efforts must also include homeowners who have had their claims wrongfully rejected by Tarion. Tarion has amassed vast financial resources over the years. Those resources must be used to address consumers’ needs. That is an urgent priority.
