Petition updateEnd Tarion’s new home warranty monopoly NOW: Give Ontarians a choice! It took 42 years, but Tarion has finally been audited by the Auditor General of Ontario!

The Ontario Government has a special type of organization, called Delegated Administrative Authorities (DAA) or Administrative Authorities (AA), as they are sometimes called. Typically there is little transparency or accountability with these DAAs, which is a big problem.

Tarion is a DAA, and this has allowed Tarion to operate to a large extent in secrecy, and with little intervention by the Ontario Government.

Thanks to an NDP motion at the Public Accounts committee last year, following a successful NDP amendment to the ONHWP Act in 2017, the Auditor General of Ontario (AG) was finally given the authority to audit Tarion, after 42 years.  (Tarion was established in 1976.)  CPBH has been working to try to provide the AG with jurisdiction over Tarion for more than a decade.  Many others have been involved as well over the years, and we thank everyone for their efforts.

In the Fall of 2018 two CPBH volunteers spent half a day with the audit team to provide input.  CPBH followed up many times by providing additional input via email further to that meeting.

The AG's report is expected to be released next week! CPBH will be issuing a statement related to the AG report once we have had a chance to read and digest the report.  We will post that statement to Facebook and Twitter as early as possible. If you can, please try to participate in that discussion on social media.  Our statement will also be posted on to our web-site under "What's New" at the top of the home page.

On behalf of the CPBH team, thank you for your support. Our work continues. #NeverGiveUP  #EndTarionMonopolyNOW
