Petition updateEnd Tarion’s new home warranty monopoly NOW: Give Ontarians a choice!Progress: Ford Gov't moving forward with splitting off the regulator function from Tarion

Some good news! The Ford Government is proceeding with hiving off the regulator role from Tarion - as Justice Cunningham recommended. The new regulator organization is called the "Home Construction Regulatory Authority" (HCRA) and its CEO is lawyer Tim Hadwen. HCRA is not expected to be operational for another year or two. In the meantime, Tarion is still responsible for regulating the industry.

HCRA has a consumer protection mandate. The legislation for this new organization was passed by the Wynne Government before the June 2018 election.

Mr. Hadwen invited CPBH's President Dr. Karen Somerville for an informal, introductory conversation. Karen welcomed the opportunity, and that conversation recently took place. Karen said that she felt it was a very good first conversation. She and Mr. Hadwen agreed to keep the conversation going in the future.

Now we need to get the Ford Government to follow through on another key Cunningham recommendation - Ending Tarion's Monopoly. Sadly, Premier Ford continues to stall on this, despite what he said before the election.  His minister, Minister Thompson, recently said that they are still studying the matter. But they won't disclose what they are doing beyond that.

CPBH volunteers continue to work hard on this. You can help by signing this petition to encourage the Ford Government to end Tarion's monopoly.  If you have already signed it, thank you. Please ask others to sign it too!
