Ontario's Official Opposition Critic for the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, MPP Jim McDonell, has outlined his expectations related to the Tarion Review final report. Reading between the lines of his Aug. 3, 2017 letter, MPP Jim McDonell wants the power taken out of Minister MacCharles hands - and he wants the process to proceed much more quickly than what the Minister has outlined thus far. Here is a link with his letter to the Minister https://tinyurl.com/y7ozkwnj .
The Wynne Government has had Justice Cunningham's final report since the fall of 2016. But it has been stalling since then.
Indeed, CPBH has learned that the Ministry has convened secret, behind-closed-door consultations over the past few months, with participants mainly from the building industry and Tarion itself. With this initiative, it appears that the Wynne Government is trying to sweep Justice Cunningham's report under the rug. Obviously this is deeply concerning to CPBH and many others who are aware of what has been going on. In a recent meeting with Ministry officials, CPBH representatives strongly expressed concern about this secret process, and urged the Ministry to proceed quickly with Justice Cunningham's 37 recommendations. And we reminded them that far too many consumers continue to suffer - needlessly - while this is going on. After all, this IS the ministry that is SUPPOSED to be protecting consumers.
CPBH certainly welcomes MPP McDonell's letter, and thanks him for it. But we need more to speak up! Here is how you can help: Find others to sign this petition to end Tarion's Monopoly. Every signature makes a difference.
