A summary of Justice Cunningham's Interim Progress Report (prepared by the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services) says that and when it comes to ending Tarion's monopoly, Tarion has expressed some concerns about that. No surprise there - operating a monopoly is undoubtedly so much easier for Tarion than facing competition. According to this summary, Justice Cunningham has also heard from some that advantages of a monopoly model include "consistent delivery, effective management and maintaining low costs for consumers.." This is at odds with some of the research that we noted (included as updates to this petition). Why have other provinces (BC, Alberta, and Manitoba) steered away from the monopoly model for their new home warranty? And why did Premier Wynne say that the days of monopolies are over in Ontario?
