Recently the Government of Manitoba passed legislation modeled on British Columbia’s approach. These two provinces both offer competition for new home warranty – not a monopoly. Further to an enquiry with the Government of Manitoba, CPBH learned that one of the reasons BC’s model gained favour in Manitoba is it expects that the market competition among builders and warranty providers will help to keep the cost of home warranties competitive. CPBH also learned that Manitoba’s approach is expected to provide a strong incentive to improve the quality of home construction and minimize warranty claims. It’s time for Ontario to follow the lead of other provinces and offer choice. 40 years of Ontario’s monopoly model is enough. Keep those signatures coming! #EndTarionMonopolyNOW
