Good news: On Sept 27 A Maricopa County Superior Court judge has ruled in favor of a restaurant owner whose business is still open at the center. This means the center is safe from demolition till Nov 3, the next hearing date. Bad news: On Sept 13 True North has put up a fence around the building including the garden where existing fence exists. On Sept 19 True North has applied permit to replace the beautiful glazed roof tiles with steel roof. The city has accepted the roof replacement permit application and started processing. It is even more disturbing that the Phoenix city has done nothing to stop such redevelopment plan. It is an absolute travesty the elected officials in the Phoenix city council have chosen to ignore the commitment the city made twenty years ago and the existing zoning stipulation that states the site’s intended use as a Chinese Cultural Center, and side with big business interests at the expense of culture and history, and the public interest. Let’s bring our communities together, calling the city for action to preserve Arizona's culture and heritage! We would be stronger if you joined us! The City Chamber is located at 200 W Jefferson St, Phoenix, Arizona 85007 (Public parking available west of the City Chamber).
