Pass the Bottle Bill for North Dakota
Pass the Bottle Bill for North Dakota
The Issue
The “Bottle Bill” which is also known as the Container Deposit Law is a great way to encourage recycling in North Dakota. Millions of plastic bottles are thrown away every hour across the world. Since plastic bottles take hundreds of years to degrade, every single plastic bottle ever thrown away still exists in nature. Littering is a cause for many problems including:
- water pollution
- soil pollution
- air pollution
- harm on fauna
- harm on flora
- visual pollution
- harm on aquatic life
- harm on birds
- and so much more!
How A Bottle Bill Works
The way that bottle bills work for consumers is by adding a small deposit on top of a beverage. Once you have finished your beverage you can go to a local store, or a bottle deposit to return your plastic, aluminum, or glass bottle. You will then receive your deposited change back.
This has been proven remarkably effective as a measure to control litter, and to encourage recycling. There is currently 10 states that have this law in place. This is not a mandatory participation law. After this achieves a certain amount of signatures, this will then be introduced to the North Dakota legislation with hopes in getting this law passed! Please sign this petition to urge the North Dakota legislature to pass a bottle bill to increase recycling rates and reduce littering rates in North Dakota. Our beautiful state has many landscapes to offer us and tourists. Unless we take action to reduce littering by passing a bottle bill, plastic pollution will create devastating affects on our environment.
