Gillingham Football club has been handed a misconduct charge after the team walked off the pitch during a match when one of their players was racially abused.

The incident, which was described as ‘disgusting, abhorrent and horrendous’ by the Bridport manager, saw the entire Gillingham team abandon the game to show their support for the abused player, and their disgust at the comments made.

Gillingham Football club, a small grass roots team, now faces a fine of between £0- £150 and the misconduct charge to stay with the club indefinitely. 

This is an appalling decision, by the Dorset FA, who should be supporting the players of both teams, who decided to abandon the match in solidarity with the abused player.
