Bring your dogs inside!

The Issue

Dorchester County Maryland

—————-

During extreme temperatures, I have seen countless posts about dogs being left outside and nothing is being done. I have heard people discouraged, outraged, and saddened by the treatment of animals in this community and the lack of help we receive from those in power. Animals do not have a voice, so we do it for them.

I want to see action being taken for the dogs who live their lives outside in unbearable temperatures. A dog should not be out for longer than 30 minutes without access to a cool or warm (depending on the season), sheltered area in weather conditions above 90 degrees or below 32 degrees. If the dog is outside longer than 30 minutes, anyone has the right to report it and an officer should contact both parties about the incident. The penalty for the first occurrence should be a fine. Officers or animal control are required to check that the dog has been put back inside. If it is reported a second time, animal control needs to be called in.

It’s time to stop treating the animals of this community like they are not living breathing creatures with feelings. This change will make people more aware of their choices and hopefully decrease the amount of animals you see outside in extreme conditions. Always remember... if you can’t properly take care of a dog. Don’t get one!

Thank you! Let’s make a change in our community! Please sign the petition and share.
