As calls for divestment, or budget reduction, of the NYPD are considered by the New York City Council, the NYPD Explorers are asking that our current budget be restricted from funding reduction now and in future budget hearings. 

The NYPD Explorers Program is made up of over 2,500 young New York City residents under the age of 21 years old. Since 1991, generations of Explorers have and still dedicate thousands of hours to career readiness and community service to our communities every year. 

In addition, as we are trained in NYPD procedure we compete against other states nationally every two years and have bought home wins, leaving behind an admirable New York City reputation nationally. 

From feeding those in need at our local community centers to saving the lives of fellow New Yorkers with our training — we are the living examples of New York City youth’s potential and leadership.

Protecting our budget includes uniforms, training equipment and needs, and competition funding and allows us experience this program with the best resources available. 

We ask for the New York City Council’s support in making the NYPD Explorer budget restricted from budget reduction now and in the future. Quality and protected funding is necessary to continue the work we do and create the changes we make.
