Texas is one of the few states that does not require a comprehensive sexual education system, and many school districts in Texas don’t even have any sexual education at all. In fact, almost ¼ of the state's school districts didn’t have sexual education in the 2015-2016 school year! And of those that did nearly all of them only had an abstinence-only sexual education. This does not properly prepare the teens for the sexual activities that they will most likely partake in, which puts them at huge health risks. And as a result of this, Texas is also seeing tremendously high rates of both STD transmission and teen pregnancies. States that have implemented a comprehensive sexual education system have seen a significantly lower rate of both teen pregnancy as well sexually transmitted diseases. Comprehensive sexual education has also been proven to actually reduce the sexual activities that teen participate in once they have received this education, as they fully understand the consequences of what they are about to do. It is time that we join the many other states and take better care of our teens and our community by implementing a more comprehensive sexual education system!
