City Council Save the Face of Olde Town Arvada. Last night, December 16, 2019, City Council voted to deny Keane Palmer and Grandview Station, LLC’s application for certificate of compliance with the Olde Town Arvada Design Guidelines. The Certificate of Compliance was initially approved by the City of Arvada’s Planning Director on August 20, 2019. I appealed this approval first to Planning Commission, who approved the Certificate of Compliance at a public hearing on November 5, 2019. Then, I appealed the Planning Commission’s approval of the Certificate of Compliance to the City Council, who ultimately denied the same last night. The Certificate of Compliance would have permitted the demolition of three historically contributing buildings and the construction of a new mixed-use building at 7315 Grandview Avenue, 7317 Grandview Avenue and 7318 W. 57th Avenue in Olde Town Arvada. More than 20 citizens of Arvada spoke in, or submitted written, opposition of the Certificate of Compliance at last night’s hearing, asking City Council to preserve the historic integrity of Olde Town Arvada by preventing such a large project that would not meet the Olde Town Arvada Design Guidelines nor the character of the historic district. I feel so grateful to live in a community where so many of my neighbors and fellow citizens value the preservation and character of Olde Town Arvada like I do. Moving forward, we will work with the City to find creative ways to preserve our district and see to it that all property owners are held to the high standards that we enjoy and that attract so many to our vibrant community. Thank you so much for being a part of this change.
