Save our Schools! Support our Teachers!

The Issue

We are going through an extraordinary time that is impacting the education of our children.  Millions of children have seen their schools closed down and have been left wondering about what their futures may look like.    Families have been overwhelmed with the burden of not only providing for their children but now educating their children.  Yet in the midst of this crisis, unseen and unsung heroes have emerged.  OUR TEACHERS!! Our teachers have been given an assignment that they could never have imagined.   With very short notice, our teachers were asked and challenged to educate our children virtually.  They had to learn to adapt and adjust their teaching platforms in a matter of days.  Not only do they have the burden to prepare their lessons and plans but to be a source of peace and comfort for our students who have been displaced and are at home. For many of our students, their teachers give them a sense of normalcy in this chaotic time.  They continue to adjust and provide support to our students.  They are truly heroes.  For many of our teachers, they have been tasked with the burden of assuring that their own kids are provided for and educated.

This is why we need to support our teachers and to make sure that they are taken care of in the midst and after this crisis.  So often, it is our teachers who make the sacrifices and are left behind.  Right now, Congress is drafting a $1 Trillion dollar stimulus to help industries who have been severely affected by this crisis.  Airlines, hotels, hospitals, small businesses and other entities but schools have not been mentioned.  If we support and help all these industries, what will be left for our schools.   We are trying to save these institutions from becoming bankrupt but our schools will go bankrupt as well! Our schools need to be a part of this stimulus.   Our schools need to be funded not for this year but for the coming year.  We need to ensure that our teachers will not be the casualties of this crisis especially since they are the ones who are sacrificially investing and providing for our students.   It has been amazing to hear the stories and the praises of our teachers.   They have truly shined in the midst of this crisis and that is why I am imploring all of our state and federal officials to ensure that our schools will be funded to support our children. Let us not only look to support our industries but to our greatest asset, our teachers.   Therefore, I am pleading with you to help ensure that our schools will be fully funded in the midst and after this crisis.  Our teachers are our greatest asset and our investment in them is absolutely worth it.  Please spread the word!

Sincerely,

James Han
