Use Eminent Domain to Buyback Drug Patents

Use Eminent Domain to Buyback Drug Patents
The Issue
As we all know, drug prices are ridiculous high. However, there is a quick and simple solution to immediately help this issue. The problem is that most drugs have a monopoly over them due to patent laws. The US Government has the power of eminent domain. This means that they can legally take control of things like patents. Doing this would open the drug market to increased product of generic drugs and would allow other drug companies to also produce these expensive drugs. And then due to basic economics, the price will be driven down.
Medicines such as insulin and epinephrine are extremely expensive for pretty much no reason. Production costs are relatively low and do not require these exploitative prices. By using eminent domain, we force the drug industry to be opened up to free market competition and drive down the price of these necessary drugs. COMPANIES SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO MAKE A PROFIT OFF PEOPLE’S LIVES.
