Now hear me out, I am not saying that Ricky martin should replace Steve Harwell. I am just saying that in the event of Steve's untimely and unfortunate death, Ricky Martin could absolutely replace Steve as the lead singer. 

Think of it: Think of how triumphant it would be if Ricky Martin stood up during a time of international pain and sorrow caused by the sudden and tragic passing of Steve Harwell, beloved pop icon, and took the reins of the drifting and purposeless band that could be Smash Mouth. Ricky would be a hero whose name would be forever remembered in the annals of history, just like all the other people who have stepped up to fill a role that us peasants clamored for and trampled our loved ones over to make sure that that role remain filled.

I mean, we have Sublime with Rome, AC/DC (The band that just wont die) with Brian Johnson AND AXL FUCKING ROSE, Queen with what's his name, Nirvana with Paul McCartney and Dick Clark with Ryan Seacrest.
And that is just to name a few.

 
Replacing lead singers when they die is a load bearing pillar of the American institution that is the global music industry, Smash Mouth is a huge and influential part of that industry so Steve should be treated with no less respect than Bradley, Bon, Freddie, Kurt and Dick.

 
It really only took me having Living La Vida Loca stuck in my head all day the other day to come to the realization that Ricky Martin and Steve Harwell not only have very similar and complimentary voices, but both men are dripping with the kind of charisma that only comes from genetic (or generic) excellence.

What I am calling for is simple: Get Ricky and Smash Mouth together and draw up some kind of contract that states that upon Steve Harwell's demise, Ricky and Smash Mouth go on a Global Tour and then produce at least one album. 

I think this is a very reasonable wish.
