Legalize Assisted Suicide in Illinois

Legalize Assisted Suicide in Illinois
The Issue
People in this world have the right to die in a peaceful, humane, and dignified way. A majority of terminal illnesses cause pain, as well as lower the quality of life. I have experienced seeing someone go through this in my own life. My grandmother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in her 50’s. She suffered tremendously for 20 years until the complications from the illness took her life. Parkinson’s is not a terminal illness but she also suffered from dementia as a result of the disease. My grandmother passed away in her late 70’s after spending almost 2 months in the hospital, suffering. We knew the end was inevitable for her after the first month in the hospital. We placed her on hospice but she was in a lot of pain and her life did not end peacefully. She developed sores in her mouth, she struggled to breathe, and all of her motor functions diminished. If PAS was legal in Illinois, or all of the United States, people who are struggling as she did, would have the choice to leave this world peacefully and free of pain.
PAS is already legal in 7 states and D.C. I am hoping that Illinois will be the next state on that list.
