The Issue

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere"-Pastor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

EndSARS stands for End Special Anti-Robbery Squad responsible for police brutality and many killings in Nigeria.  Across Nigeria in the past few days youths and many citizens both at home and in the diaspora have been having peaceful protests and launched a social media campaign to end the long record of human rights abuses by the Nigerian police and call for needed reforms and sanctions on the Nigerian government.

We encourage the government to explore using new sanctions regime that allows individuals and entities that violate human rights around the world to be targeted, to impose sanctions on members of the Nigerian government and police force involved in human rights abuses by the Nigerian police.

In addition, there have been disturbing reports of SARS engaging in illegal activities and human rights abuses which has been ongoing for years, and most recent reports of police firing and arresting protestors calling for SARS to be disbanded and prosecuted.

I m calling for your great leadership to support sanctions and:

1. A bipartisan resolution condemning youth killings by SARS in Nigeria, and to hold all SARS officials who have committed crimes against humanity responsible

2. Encourage the Nigerian government to strengthen efforts to protect youths, and peaceful protestors and to hold those who conduct such violent attacks accountable.  Call on the immediate release of all peaceful innocent arrested protestors.

3. Visa sanctions for all Nigerian government officials who do not condemn SARS, and the political government officials who are sponsoring terrorist and hired thugs to destroy peaceful protestors and property, and sponsors of Boko Haram terrorist in Nigeria who have internally displaced people-over 3 million, especially children and youths in Nigeria.

4. Encourage the Nigerian government to immediately reconstitute the Governing Council of the Nigerian Human Rights Commission and implement the vital reforms needed.

5. To call off the mandatory curfew that the Nigeran government launched today 20 October 2020 to stop peaceful protestors from exercising their legal right to assemble and express their views.

Deploying sanctions would provide accountability for and be a deterrent to any person or Nigerian government officials involved in violations of human rights! Thank you in advance for your support, and God bless you!
