After attempts by the United States and China to obtain companies that are developing Coronavirus vaccines, it has become clear that certain nations are interested in gaining first (and perhaps temporarily exclusive) access to any vaccine or remedy that might be developed to cure the novel Coronavirus caused disease Covid-19.

A similar situation occured already during the 2009 H1N1 flu pandemic. An Australian company first developed a vaccine and was compelled to satisfy Australia's need before distributing it to the rest of the world.

This pandemic is growing much larger and much faster than the H1N1 flu pandemic. It is spreading at an inconsistent rate to and among nations. So, it is possible that some nation which strikes upon a remedy first but which is only moderately affected by the virus could focus all efforts upon itself while another greatly afflicted country continues to suffer significantly. This would not only be cruel but unwise as it might leave the places where the virus is spreading fastest under-treated which would give the virus an even greater foothold in the world populace.

Furthermore, remedy development has been a cooperative international effort. No one nation can now claim to have entirely developed any remedy on their own. Attempts to control the remedy could change this cooperative spirit create and create an adversarial situation. Such a situation could lead to a delay in development of a remedy as nations begin to withhold key findings from eachother as they bece suspicious of one another.

Therefore it is imperative that the world's nations enter into a treaty of mutual aid. This treaty should ensure equal ownership of any Covid-19 remedy. It should lay out a plan for requiring and enforcing that a vaccine is distributed according to reccomendations of the world's doctors and epidemiologists. Last it should gaurantee that a remedy cannot be withheld as sanction against any country.

People of a moral conscience should agree that any vaccine or novel remedy should be distributed upon a basis of need. We wish to ensure our moral treatment of one a other. We wish to ensure the virus is curtailed most effectively. We wish to ensure the continued cooperation of the world's scientists upon a remedy.  And so sign this petition.
