Extend High School 2020 spring sports into the summer and post-graduation

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the last few months, schools all around the country started to close and move to online either on their own decision or in the case of Utah Schools, the decisions made by the Health Department and State Government. School sanctioned activities were postponed for two weeks up until recently when it was announced that the closure would extend until at least May 1st. While schoolwork can be done online and students can still finish the year, the chance for us to participate in spring extracurricular activities is looking slim. Clubs, athletics, the music department, and much more amazing opportunities will most likely be canceled if they are not already. While most festivals and other clubs have been canceled, high school athletes have been anxiously hopeful that they will get their seasons this year. Soccer, softball, baseball, tennis, track and field, and many more sports give students a place to work hard and change so many lives. For many of these athletes they have worked their entire lives just for this moment, especially the class of 2020 who may not have their senior year and senior night. These students are hardworking and amazing contributors to this great nation and for many this was the highlight of their entire high school career.  We are asking that the President of the United States, Governor Gary Herbert, The Utah Health Department, and the Utah High School Activities Association grant High School teams eligibility to practice and play into the summer of 2020 and reschedule all games/matches/meets including tournaments and playoffs. Even if we don’t allow a fan base LET THESE KIDS PLAY. If we can use state and federal budgets to pay millions of dollars in aid to those affected by the pandemic, can’t we postpone a season of sports?
