Coronavirus hospital data should be reported to the CDC, not the Trump administration

For the past many months, United States hospitals have directly reported their coronavirus data to the CDC, who has collated and reported the data to the rest of the world. This week, the Trump administration commanded hospitals to report their coronavirus data directly to the administration instead of the CDC. Due to President Trump’s vested interest in downplaying the coronavirus pandemic in the United States along with the president’s poor poll numbers for the 2020 general election, there exists reasonable concern that the Trump administration will modify the coronavirus data to improve the president’s chance of re-election.

Coronavirus data should not be politicized. What keeps Americans safe is unbiased, raw data reported to an apolitical organization like the CDC. Every American should be in favor of a system that ensures transparent and accurate coronavirus reporting in the United States.
