MEDIA ATTENTION IS Needed for the practices at ACS San Antonio
The Issue
There are many dog advocates, rescues, and dog lovers concerned with the daily death and killing at ACS San Antonio. Their assessments are flawed-I know, because I've rescued many dogs deemed "unworthy" so to speak, and they are perfectly fine, loved dogs in forever homes.
We understand space is an issue-that is not the fight here. The fight is for these dogs to get a fair chance. ASC gets huge grant money awarded to them, yet many dogs suffer, untreated for things like mange, flea allergies, broken bones, worms, and the list goes on and on. Instead, rescues take on this financial burden . But in the meantime, every minute of ever day, dogs continue to suffer when just a little vet attention may make their life a bit more bearable.
And then, their final minutes. This photo, circulating on social media, and reported as "offensive" no less, was the final straw for me. For the love of God, have the decency to make the final moments of the dogs life just a bit...better, for lack of a better term. There is NOTHING worse than seeing a dog many of us tried to save ultimately pay the price with their life. How about tenderness and compassion to make their road to the rainbow bridge a bit better?
And finally, the games...ASC won't even respond to an email I send asking about one of their dogs? Why? Because I have chosen to be their voice? The shelter's main objective, first and foremost, is to get the dogs placed, not kill them. They should welcome any efforts from ANYONE to save one of their dogs. And this isn't just me they play their games with. Many can't even comment on posts, or share the "urgent" dogs because they've been "banned"-thus effectively ending a better chance for the dog to be rescued, fostered, adopted.
