Thanks to all of you enthusiastic patriots, we’re gaining ground on our preservation efforts at long last!

Last month the Fishkill Town Board denied the extension of water and sewer services from the Village of Fishkill to the site where a commercial development proposal threatens destruction of the the last remaining vestiges of the Continental Army’s Northern Supply Depot where dozens, if not hundreds, of soldiers are buried, awaiting proper recognition.

Due directly to your past financial support, our legal teams went to work to expose the developer’s water and sewer requests for what they were:  hastily submitted petitions that, if adopted, would negatively impact a local aquifer…needlessly expend precious resources…and, most importantly, threaten a historic site of national importance.  The Town Board’s actions demonstrate that Fishkill was critical in our fight for independence and our ultimate victory over the British.

Our research team has identified the names of over 80 patriots – from 9 of the 13 original colonies – all buried in Fishkill.

While the water and sewer service denials were important steps to preventing the immediate destruction of the Fishkill site, they in no way stopped the project altogether.  Not only is the developer able (and expected) to regroup and resubmit new requests for water and sewer, but he continues to hold a “negative declaration” from the Town Planning Board which is effectively a conditional approval of his overall plan.  That is why we have maintained our lawsuit against the Town Planning Board and commercial developer, as it is the surest way of stopping development and protecting our heritage.  [The lawsuit, which remains under review by a New York State judge, contests the negative declaration and argues for of a full environmental assessment.]

On the heels of the recent victory, I’m once again asking you to help resupply our “war chest” and join us in defeating a developer who, since mid-2015, has been seeking to destroy the Fishkill Supply Depot.  Your continued financial support will sustain the late rally (that past financial support made possible) and carry us through the final battle so that…TOGETHER…we may overcome the forces of unchecked development and secure our patriots’ honor once and for all.  Huzzah!  Huzzah!  Huzzah!

Sincerely, all of us at the Friends of the Fishkill Supply Depot (a registered 501c(3) non-profit historical preservation organization).
