Don't take away our Local Centre

The Issue

Our neighbourhood in Northwest Preston was set to get a Local Centre with a mix of facilities, like shops, units for small businesses to start, restaurants, and medical units, according to the city's masterplan and the original outline planning permission granted for the land west of Sandy Lane near the Link Road. This would have given us easy access to many services right in our community and was a fundamental part of the North West Preston Masterplan.

However, a new proposal wants to change all that. Instead of the diverse Local Centre we were promised, they're planning to build just a convenience store and a large care home. We already have similar facilities nearby and this new plan doesn't add any value to our community.

We believe the new plan doesn't reflect the needs of our neighbourhood. It limits our access to different facilities, and it appears to prioritise private interests over what's good for our community. We don’t object to a care home or a convenience store, but these alone do not make a local centre, the original mix of facilities must be maintained and the care home size scaled back.

With this petition, we're asking the planning committee to reject planning applications 06/2023/0587 & 06/2023/0599 . We want our Local Centre to align with the original vision and to meet the actual needs of our community.

If you're concerned about these changes, please sign this petition. Together, we can make sure our neighbourhood develops in a way that benefits all of us.
