Thanks to your amazing support we are within touching distance of 100k signatures, please keep sharing! As expected, Abraxane was axed today from the Cancer Drugs Fund leaving pancreatic cancer patients in England seriously disadvantaged. The drug continues to be available in Scotland, Wales and most of the rest of Europe.
There has been considerable media interest today. Ali Stunt, pancreatic cancer survivor and founder of the charity Pancreatic Cancer Action featured on BBC Breakfast, I spoke to Viking FM and Sky News featured Danielle Corcoran-Tanner who is a very young pancreatic cancer patient. Danielle should not be having to deal with the real worry that Abraxane is no longer available – Danielle is dealing with enough as it is.
In addition, Pancreatic Cancer Action took the campaign for Abraxane to the Dept of Health and were campaigning outside with an ad van and information flyers making more people aware of this decision. Delighted that my MP Nic Dakin joined them to add his support.
We feel the decision to axe Abraxane is wrong and we are committed to trying to make NHS England see that the first breakthrough drug for pancreatic cancer in 17 years should not have been axed for patients in England and that this takes away hope from a cancer with very little hope attaching to it.
I’d be so grateful if you would continue to share and encourage friends, family, colleagues and anyone else you can think of to sign.!This campaign matters to everyone. None of us know when someone we love may need this drug. Let’s do our best to get it available once more to patients in England so that they have the same offering and are treated in the same way as patients elsewhere.
Thank you for sticking with the campaign, for all of your wonderful comments of support but I am so very sorry to those of you who have experienced pancreatic cancer first hand. It truly is a hideous disease that has seen no progress in such a long time. For me, Abraxane represents a glimmer of progress.
Please take a look at the pictures from Pancreatic Cancer Action's campaign outside the Dept of Health today and add your signature to their Government epetition which needs signatures in order to get a Government Debate https://www.facebook.com/PancreaticCancerAction/?fref=ts
With grateful thanks for your support
Maggie
