President Trump just announced his intent to award Rudy Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom—the highest civilian honor in the United States.

We’re calling on Congress, the American public, and civic institutions to oppose this decision before it dishonors the meaning of the medal itself.

This award was created to recognize individuals who have made “especially meritorious contributions” to national security, world peace, or cultural and public life. Rudy Giuliani has done the opposite:

• He was barred from practicing law in New York and D.C. for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
• He’s been charged in Georgia and named as a co-conspirator in the federal election interference case.
• He spread dangerous misinformation about voting, COVID-19, and election results—undermining democracy at home and U.S. credibility abroad.

Giuliani’s role in coordinating false electors, attacking election workers, and supporting efforts to subvert a lawful election is well-documented. Giving him this award would make a mockery of every past recipient who truly earned it.

It’s about preserving the integrity of the nation’s highest civilian honor.
