In 2025, 33,000 young people from Victoria were supported by Kids Helpline counsellors, but no funding is provided by the Victorian Government to support Kids Helpline.

As a young person, I am calling on the Victorian Government to provide ongoing funding for Kids Helpline so that Victorian children and young people can continue to access free, confidential counselling and support whenever they need it. It’s incredibly disappointing to see a lack of ongoing support and funding from the Victorian Government for a service that so many young Victorians rely on. 

Kids Helpline is there when people are struggling, when they feel overwhelmed, when they don’t know who else to turn to, and when finding the courage to ask for help is already difficult enough. For many young people, reaching out to Kids Helpline can be the first step towards getting through an incredibly difficult moment. When they reach out they should there should be someone there for them.

As Victorians, we should be able to expect our government to stand behind services that support our young people when they need it most. It is deeply disappointing that a service with such an important role in the lives of young people is not supported by the Victorian Government.

We cannot keep telling young people to speak up and ask for help while allowing the services they turn to, to go without the support they need.

We need action. We need ongoing funding for Kids Helpline. And we need the Victorian Government to show young people that when they reach out for help, someone will be there.
