Don't let the Air Force separate this family!

The Issue

The Hulter family, after serving 10 years of active military duty in the U.S. Air Force, including a year long deployment in an active war zone, is now being torn apart. Technical Sergeant Daniel Hulter and his wife Jessica, a volunteer EMT with the Baltimore County Fire Department, have two children; their 8 year old son is a vibrant individual, and their 10 year old daughter suffers from a rare, extremely debilitating developmental disability called Rett Syndrome.

Rett Syndrome has limited treatment options, and has no cure. This lovely girl has never been able to walk or speak, and must recieve rigid medical care at all time, including G-tube feeding and anti-seizure precautions.

For more information about Rett Syndrome: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rett_syndrome

TSgt Hulter is currently receiving orders to be re-stationed to a state that does not have adequate medical care for their severely disabled daughter.

Ordinarily, when a service member is sent on an unaccompanied tour, the duration is limited to a short tour (1-2 years). Due to a lack of short tours available, TSgt Hulter is being required to serve a long-tour of at least 3 years.  This will separate the family because the daughter's disability is so severe that the Exceptional Family Members Program has denied his family's ability to move with him for this permanent change of station.

This is tragic in its own right, but even more so due to the fact that his daughter's life expectancy with her developmental disability is likely to be shorter than his term of station. This means that his options are limited to withdrawing from career military service or living apart from his family, during which time he may miss the remaining years of his daughter's life. TSgt Hulter is dedicated to his military service, but feels that this prolonged absence would be more harm to his family than anything.

Please help us get Mr. Hulter and his family retained at the Fort Meade base where his family has been well established for the past two years, and his daughter has regular access to the care she needs for the time she has left. The family is NOT asking for financial assistance of any kind, but is asking for help contacting local politicians within Maryland to enlist their help. Do not let the military split up this family!!
