Don't give a platform to singers who call for the murder of gays and lesbians. Say No to Hate Music!

The Issue

This summer, a number of venues in Europe will offer a stage to "artists" who did call for the murder LGBT people. Inciting murder is a criminal offence. There is no right to incite the murder of other human beings. This goes way beyond an acceptable expression of opinion. It is time to speak up again and to call for a boycott of these events and their sponsors.

The Festivals Chiemsee Reggae Summer in Germany, Openair Frauenfeld in Switzerland, Amsterdam Reggae Festival in the Netherlands, Rototom Sunsplash in Spain, Sumerjam Festival in Cologne and Regalowisko in Poland planning to host the singer Beenie Man. A singer who is used to be known to call for murder of minorities. In December 2009 for example he sung his song Mi Nah Wallah on a Festival in Uganda, in which he says that he would like to cut the throats of all gay men. Here are some of Beenie Man’s other hateful Lyrics:

„All faggots must be killed!“

„Take a bazooka and kill bum-fuckers.“

„I'm dreaming of a new Jamaica, come to execute all the gays.“

„Hang lesbians with a long piece of rope.“

The "D Club" in Lousanne, the „Zenith Paris – La Vilette“ in Paris, Volkshaus in Zurich, Live Music Club in Milano, Club Atlantico in Rome, People Disco Club in Catanzaro, Le Phare in Tournefeuille and the Amsterdam Reggae Festival have invited in May 2012 the singer Bounty Killer, who uses his songs to encourage murder of homosexuals:

"Bun a fire pon a kuh pon mister fagoty…."

„I’m ready to wipe out this faggot with a pure laser beam"

„Hear this likkle punk guh sing a battyman concept…To kill dis yah fool, to me dat is no stress Murder dem fast just like a Federal Express"

The Chiemsee Reggae Summer also invited TOK. Here are some of their hateful lyrics:

„Those who get together in a queer's car“
„Blaze the fire, let's burn them! (Burn them!!)“

„Those who drink in a queer bar“
„Blaze the fire, let's kill them! (Kill them!!)“

„Queers must die and that's a fact“

We demand that this Event Locations and organizers immediately withdraw their support of people who call for hate, violence, and murder -- towards gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people, and anyone at all! Hate speech is a crime and has nothing to do with free speech. Lesbian and gay people have a right to live their lives free from threats to “execute” them.

Let the event sponsors – Beck’s and MIGROS -- know what we think about their support for hate and violence. Tell them that we will not tolerate it, and we will launch a boycott.

Beenie Man: "I respect all human being, including gay and lesbian" Monday, 14 May 2012 00:00 We have received and we are happy to publish a videomessage of Beenie Man in which he wishes to clear out any doubt about his position concerning homophobic lyrics appeared in some of his old songs. We would like to think that his words can put an end to all the controversies that the subject has generated. This video reaches us after a journey that Rototom has started in 2005 and which has seen us committed to bringing to the Sunsplash only those artists that respect and accept all people, regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation. In 2007 this position has lead us to draw up the Reggae Compassionate Act, an agreement that was supported by reggae promoters and activists of Stop Murder Music and signed, among others, by Beenie Man. In the agreement, the artist committed himself not to sing or make public statement in Jamaica or any other country in the world, that could encourage prejudice, hatred or violence against gay or lesbian people. Beenie Man is part of the 2012 Sunsplash line up, because we believe in his change and his detachment from homophobic positions, as demonstrated on this video.v http://www.rototomsunsplash.com/en/news/224-sunsplash-2012/2958-beenie-man-qrispetto-tutti-inclusi-gay-e-lesbicheq
