The Issue

Air travel used to be about the joy of the journey. Today, it is a calculated corporate shakedown. Every time we fly, we face the same manufactured anxiety: will we actually get to sit with our family, or will our airline hold our seats for ransom?

Airlines have mastered a deeply manipulative tactic: the illusion of the affordable ticket. They lure us in with a base fare, only to weaponize our basic need for comfort, safety, and connection. By creating artificial scarcity on the seat map, they force us to pay a premium simply to sit next to the person we booked our trip with. This is not a service; it is an exploitative trap designed to squeeze everyday people who are already stretching their hard-earned money just to see the world or visit loved ones.

We understand that airlines are businesses. But maximizing profit margins should never come at the expense of basic human decency. Airlines rely on our tax dollars, our public airspace, and our national infrastructure to survive. They have a duty to work for the people, not just view us as walking wallets.

Sitting together is not a luxury upgrade. For over 70% of passengers, sitting next to their travel companion is a fundamental necessity for emotional well-being and peace of mind. Punishing travelers with hidden junk fees just to keep families, friends, or couples together on a reservation they’ve already paid for is unjustified and greedy.

Our demand is simple and fair: Airlines must eliminate seat selection fees for passengers on the same reservation within the 24-hour check-in window.

It is time to stop accepting corporate practices that prioritize relentless greed over people. We are the consumers keeping these airlines in the sky, and together, we have the financial leverage to force them to change.

Sign this petition to demand an end to predatory seat selection fees. Add your name to send a unified, undeniable message to the airline industry: our connections are not your commodities, and we will not pay to be treated with basic fairness.
