Don't Cut Funding to Ashby Museum

Don't Cut Funding to Ashby Museum
The Issue
Ashby Museum is proud to have served our community for over 40 years. We’re 30 volunteers and trustees with a mission to provide an accessible means of understanding the history, heritage, and development of our town, and encourage the conservation of Ashby and the surrounding area (including Blackfordby, Breedon, Coleorton, Packington, Smisby, Staunton Harold and Grace Dieu). Not only do we showcase professional-grade exhibitions as an accredited museum, but we also care for an extensive collection of historic objects, work with local schools, serve as a resource for local research, and hold regularly sold-out programming.
Fundamental to our success has been the 30+ year-long partnership with the local council, as their consistent support ensures we can plan ahead knowing our future is secure. But just before Christmas, we were shocked to hear that the North West Leicestershire District Council has proposed cutting their annual £1,500 grant to the museum.
To many, £1,500 may not seem like a large sum, but for a Registered Charity like Ashby Museum, it means we can continue to provide our high standard of programming without raising entry fees or making sacrifices to our offering. Operating without this grant will put increased pressure on our entirely volunteer-led local treasure.
