Dear Charlottesvillians and friends: Between C-ville City Council, the city manager, Parks & Rec, and/or other city institutions, they are PLANNING TO CUT THE TREES. Almost a dozen trees on our iconic, *shaded* Downtown Mall are slated for removal- not because they're ill, or rotten, or unsound, or a danger to anyone. Just to be removed. The city is, predictably, very interested in NOT letting residents know about this, as they know that no one wants a barren, joyless paved plain for a pedestrian precinct. Please sign this ASAP and share it far and wide- the more signatures, the better. You don't have to be local. Even if they replanted trees the day after, which they wouldn't, the downtown mall would not look the same IN OUR LIFETIMES if they do this, which plan is imminent. Costs of cooling for businesses and apartments would skyrocket. It would no longer be a serene, shaded walk or place to eat. Please take a second.
