Night nurses are being left in the dark—literally.

Illinois lawmakers just passed a $55.2 billion budget. Not one cent was set aside to save the Chicago Transit Authority from a $770 million shortfall. That means massive cuts are coming, including to overnight trains and buses that essential workers rely on.

For night-shift nurses, this isn’t about delays. It’s about danger. After 12-hour shifts caring for patients, they’ll be forced to walk alone in the dark, wait longer on deserted platforms, or risk losing their jobs because they can’t get to work at all.

These are the same workers who showed up for us during the pandemic. Now they’re being treated like they don’t matter.
