Let's make sure our Public Officials know we support Edgewood Farms and the amazing opportunity the Ostriches present to finding a treatment for a terrible virus.

Dear Prime Minister Carney,
I am deeply concerned about the planned culling of ostriches at Edgewood Farms in British Columbia by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). I respectfully urge you to intervene and halt the cull, which threatens not only the lives of healthy animals but also critical scientific research with potential global impact.
The ostriches have shown no sign of infection for 130 days and have likely developed immunity. Independent experts, including Dr. Stephen Pelech and epidemiologist Nicolas Hulscher, have advocated for testing and further research rather than destruction. Their position aligns with public health innovation and Canada’s commitment to science-based decision-making.
Edgewood Farms is isolated, does not supply food, and has implemented strict biosecurity protocols. Given these factors, along with the birds’ scientific value, the farm poses minimal public risk. A similar exemption was granted by CFIA in 2022 showing that flexibility is possible.
The public is watching. Tens of thousands have signed petitions calling for the cull to be stopped. Numerous public figures have expressed opposition to the culling, including BC Premier David Eby, several BC MLA's, the RDCK, Conservative MP Scott Anderson, Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, People's Party of Canada Leader Maxime Bernier, immunologists, epidemiologists, and university professors. US Health Secretary, Robert Kennedy Jr. personally wrote a letter to CFIA President Paul MacKinnon urging him to preserve the Ostriches and offering "full support" in joint research. Joselynn, Canada’s first child survivor of H5N1, even visited the farm—her own antibody response mirrors the potential these birds represent.
Canada has a chance to be a leader in responsible, compassionate, and evidence-driven action. I urge you to request a full review of the CFIA decision, promote further testing over killing, and work to preserve this rare and valuable research opportunity.
