Don't Close Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Academy's Doors in Wilton, CT
The Issue
We need your help!
After 60 years, the Diocese of Bridgeport, has decided to close the doors of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Academy in Wilton, CT. It was announced less than six weeks ago that unless the school could reach a certain amount of students, by June 29, 2022, they would close the school. Short of 2 new enrollments, the diocese unmercifully failed to look at new enrollment statistics or hear with empathy, compassion, or kindness from the board that primarily most of the newly enrolled students were coming from the town of Wilton, when in the past, this wasn't always the case. Aware that a more contemporary business model was needed to move the school forward, specific focus was given in these efforts to weave in new methods, models, and approaches to not only enrollment, but future fundraising, capital campaigns and sustainability so that a true vision of a revitalized Fatima could be achieved - this, along with the enrollment efforts, was dismissed without consideration. Parents and students worked tirelessly to save the school, for which we feel there was a total lack of empathy. Is this the right message to give our children of tomorrow? With so many issues, including, bullying, suicides, etc. in our public schools, now more than ever, faith-based education is needed most.
There are countless alumni families that our forever grateful for Our "Incredible" Lady of Fatima Catholic Academy and the values and foundation it provides our children, but more importantly, shaping our families for the betterment of our community, as well as neighboring communities. After being a parent and an involved volunteer for over 15 years, I can name 10 organizations off the top of my head that our school community has supported through the years. Closing this school not only affects the current children, families, faculty - it affects many other non-profit organizations that need just a little extra love and support.
Lastly, maybe She, Our Lady, is not the most profitable school, but her dividends are paid in the lives she has transformed—the character, spiritual citizenship, and downright saintliness of those fortunate enough to have had the gift of a Fatima childhood. This school has helped so many other students perhaps with learning and/or other disabilities, thrive and leave the tiny school yet full of so much love, support, encouragement, and in God's grace, with a much stronger foundation as they go into high-school and beyond.
Please join me in signing this petition to ultimately keep the doors open or at minimum, have the opportunity to be heard by the Diocese of Bridgeport.
Thank you for your consideration in signing this petition by the end of the day, July 5th.
