Don't Burn Us - Reject Harmony Grove Village South without Secondary Access
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens, respectfully express our strong opposition to the proposed Harmony Grove Village South development.
Reason for Opposition
Based on the feedback from numerous, nationally renowned fire experts, we believe that Harmony Grove Village South development poses a significant threat to the safety and well-being of our communities. Specifically, we are deeply concerned about the following:
- Excessive Density in a Very High Fire Severity Zone: The addition of 453 homes will create an unacceptably high density of residents in an area with a long (and recent) history of devastating wildfires with limited evacuation capacity.
- Only one way out - no secondary access: We question the county’s curious decision to waive fire code standards requiring a secondary exit on a dead end road. The lack of at least two designated egress points presents a grave danger during wildfire emergencies.
- Deadly Evacuation Conditions: In the event of a wildfire, the experts have warned that, if built out, the immediate community will have more than 3500 vehicles evacuating, which will take over 7 hours on the limited two-lane roads; the fire is estimated to arrive within an hour.
- More lives at risk: We believe this development jeopardizes the thousands of lives and the safety of Harmony Grove, Eden Valley, Hidden Hills, Citracado Hills and Elfin Forest communities who have relied on these limited evacuation routes for years.
Our Request
We are more than overdue for a devastating wildfire which have come approximately every 7 to 10 years in this community. We ask that the Board of Supervisors consider the bad decision-making that lead to deaths and entrapment in Northern California and LA County fires. We urge you to deny the Harmony Grove Village South development. We ask that our government representatives prioritize the safety and welfare of their constituents and carefully consider the potentially devastating consequences of approving this project.
